BGP-RCN: improving BGP convergence through root cause notification
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a new mechanism, called BGP with root cause notification (BGP-RCN), that provides an upper bound of O(d) on routing convergence delay for BGP, where d is the network diameter as measured by the number of AS hops. BGP-RCN lets each routing update message carry the information about the specific cause which triggered the update message. Once a node v receives the first update message triggered by a link failure, v can avoid using any paths that have been obsoleted by the same failure. The basic approach in BGP-RCN is applicable to path vector routing protocols in general. Our analysis and simulation show that BGP-RCN can achieve substantial reduction in both BGP convergence time and the total number of intermediate route changes. 2004 Elsevier B.V. Improving BGP Convergence Through Consistency Assertions
This paper presents a new mechanism for improving the convergence properties of path vector routing algorithms, such as BGP. Using a route’s path information, we develop two consistency assertions for path vector routing algorithms that are used to compare similar routes and identify infeasible routes. To apply these assertions in BGP, mechanisms to signal failure/policy withdrawal, and traffic...
متن کاملBGP is high on SDN: Improving BGP Convergence and Security using SDN and reassertions
Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is the de facto protocol for inter-domain routing in the Internet. BGP performance has historically been accepted but rapidly evolving internet demands better performance guarantees from BGP. BGP convergence time is notorious for its unpredictable and unbounded limits. We present a novel way where we dissipate BGP state change messages from multiple Autonomous Syst...
متن کاملBGP Anomaly Detection Using Wavelet Analysis
Being the de facto standard inter-domain routing protocol, BGP’s performance characteristics have a widespread, sometime global, impact to the Internet. Anomalous BGP behavior could result in delayed path convergence, and in the worst case, network connectivity disruption. An in-depth understanding on BGP’s anomalies will not only help administrators to manage the network better, but also help ...
